OFF-LABEL PRESCRIPTION OF MEDICINES IN CHILDREN IN OPHTHALMOLOGISTS PRACTICE

Abstract

Pharmacoepidemiological, retrospective study of the prescriptions of medicines to 205 sick children with ophthalmologists. The reference source is the Kazakhstan National Formulary of Medicines. 79% of children were with inflammatory diseases, 21% with eye injuries. Children aged: 0-1 year 76.5% of appointments off-label; 1-3 years - 5.3%; 3-6 years - 13%; 6 years and older - 15.4%. The off-label included unregulated ways of administration, contraindicated at a certain age and inappropriate doses of drugs. In 100% of cases, antibacterial agents were prescribed, 19 titles were used, 4 were not described in the formulary, 8 antibiotics were used inappropriately. 3 drugs are contraindicated in childhood, 5 do not correspond to the indication of
age and dosage regimen.
