LEGISLATIVE APPROACH TO TREATMENT OF RARE DISEASES
Abstract
The term “orphan disease” (rare diseases, Eng. Orphan disease) first appeared in January 1983 in the United States in making the law «Orphan Drug Act», designed to encourage pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs for diseases that have a small market. According to this law, companies that develop these drugs can sell them without competition for seven years and have tax credits for clinical trials. There is no single, widely accepted definition of orphan diseases. There is no single level of disease prevalence in the population, in which it considered a rare start.
